Did you know that there are two types of sheepdogs? One type is ‘hard wired’ genetically to disrupt the sheep and move them from one place to another, an example of such a breed is the Border Collie.
The other type of sheepdog is ‘hard wired’ to guard the sheep and protect them from predators by barking and excitable behaviour (without aggression). The Old English Sheepdog belongs to the guarding type of sheepdogs.

Barking......

Even though barking is normal canine behaviour, excessive barking can become a nuisance, especially if it becomes 'learned behaviour'. Dogs do what 'works' for them and the more they practise the better they will get! Establishing the reason for barking and what reinforcement/reward the dog gets when he barks is a good place to start. Ignoring a barking dog sometimes isn't enough because he will try harder to get your attention and may bark more; getting frustrated. So the behaviour can get worse before it gets better.

Home Alone.....

Separation Anxiety is a serious problem. It can be very stressful for dogs and professional help should be sought.
